Course Description:
This 2-day training module applies the fundamentals of drone mapping to LiDAR data collection. It covers the full aerial LiDAR data collection workflow, introducing students to LiDAR mission planning, sensor calibration, flight operations, quality control, and data.
At the end of this module, students will be able to…
- Differentiate between photogrammetry and LiDAR and understand the various applications for each spatial data collection method.
- Plan a LiDAR mission mapping mission using their knowledge of flight planning tools and LiDAR sensor parameters and limitations.
- Apply LiDAR sensor calibration methods in a practical context.
- Define the coordinate system that will be used to geo-reference a LiDAR dataset.
- Deploy ground control points and checkpoints using a GNSS base station
- Capture LiDAR data with a drone
- Run in-field quality control on LiDAR data
